The boy who lived will have a new cable network home beginning in 2018.
NBCUniversal will have the broadcast and cable network rights to all of the films in author J.K. Rowling's Wizarding World franchise, which includes all eight Harry Potter movies and the upcoming "Fantastic Beasts" films, the corporation said in a news release Monday.
The deal encompasses much of the Harry Potter universe, including the Universal theme parks where Rowling's series of books has become a real-life destination. NBCUniversal also wants to collaborate with Pottermore, the "digital heart of the Wizarding World, which hosts articles, features and exclusive, original writing by J.K. Rowling," the news release stated.
The movies, which were distributed by Warner Bros., will appear on USA Network and Syfy, which are owned by NBCUniversal.
