NBC, Microsoft May Launch News Channel

NBC and Microsoft are talking about forming an equity partnership to launch a 24-hour TV news channel, according to a report today in the Wall Street Journal.

The plan for the two companies to work together on a TV project is not surprising. In May, they formed a strategic multimedia alliance to develop online, CD-ROM, interactive TV, and other digital products. As part of the alliance, NBC agreed to build new online services for the Microsoft Network. At that time, the companies said these efforts would be integrated with traditional broadcast and cable television.

According to today's report, NBC has been working on a comprehensive distribution and programming plan for a 24-hour news channel for the past year.
