Napster fate on hold over weekend

Napster's last day in bankruptcy court, which will determine whether or not it winds up in the hands of German media giant Bertelsmann, was delayed until Tuesday morning.

Tuesday is the last day before Bertelsmann's $9 million offer for Napster's assets expires, and Bertelsmann lawyers have indicated they are unwilling to extend the offer. Napster's creditors supported the buyout in a brief court hearing Friday. A bankruptcy judge will hear objections from music publishers and record labels on Tuesday before making a final decision on the purchase. Bertelsmann has not indicated what role, if any, Napster's file-swapping technology would play in its new corporate strategy.
