Entertainment information company Muze says it has launched a streaming audio preview service in an effort to drive online music sales. Muze said the service, dubbed MuzeTunes, provides retailers with 1.8 million audio clips that are available in Microsoft Windows Media Audio. The service is powered by Akamai Technologies, a Cambridge, Mass.-based company that makes software that speeds delivery of information over the Internet.
Muze provides computer catalogs of music, books and video titles that serve as the search directories for retail outlets, such as Virgin MegaStore, Amazon.com and Yahoo, which in turn sell products by major record labels, movie studios and publishing houses. Last month, the New York City-based company inked a licensing deal with MoodLogic, a start-up that automates the creation of personalized play lists for songs.
