'Mutant Giant Spider Dog' leads YouTube's top videos of 2014
A Nike ad featuring soccer star Cristiano Ronaldo and a bend test of Apple's iPhone 6 Plus also rank among the top trending videos of 2014.
YouTube shared its top trending videos for 2014 on Tuesday, and -- perhaps not surprisingly -- a video of a dog wearing a spider costume led the pack.
"Mutant Giant Spider Dog" was the top trending clip on Google's popular video site this year. A Nike ad featuring soccer players Cristiano Ronaldo and Neymar Jr. claimed the No. 2 spot, while a video called "First Kiss" -- where 20 strangers were asked to kiss for the first time -- came in at No. 3. While these videos may not be the most watched clips on the site, they were among the most popular.
Being popular on YouTube is no small task. With 300 hours of video uploaded to the site each minute, it is extremely difficult for any one video to stand out in the crowd. The top 10 videos of 2014 managed to nab over 667 million views in 2014 and collectively garnered 21 million channel subscribers.
In addition to general videos, YouTube shared that the most popular music videos on the site this year. Katy Perry's "Dark Horse" was No. 1 followed by Enrique Iglesias' "Bailando." Musical artist Shakira took the No. 3 and No. 4 spots with "Can't Remember to Forget You" and "La La La (Brazil 2014)."
The top music video were collectively played "billions of times" on YouTube.
In conjunction with Tuesday's announcement, Google said YouTube has one billion unique users visiting its pages each month.
