Music player to chat with MSN, Yahoo IM

Streaming music company Echo Networks says it plans to make its Web-based music player compatible with MSN's and Yahoo's instant messaging services through the open-source Jabber software. The player, dubbed the Echo Music Messenger, lets music fans listen to tunes with friends and family while chatting with each other in real time. The San Francisco-based company said that through Jabber's standard and Echo Networks' Groupcast technology, which provides synchronous music streams, Echo Messenger members will be able to invite people using MSN's or Yahoo's IM services to listen to their music stations. Echo Networks said it expects to release its IM compatibility feature May 15. Jabber.com is a subsidiary of Webb Interactive Services, which offers advanced XML-based technology.
