From Mulder's badge to Skywalker's lightsaber, the most expensive movie props

A new infographic lines up Frodo's sword, the Ghostbusters' proton pack, Dorothy's ruby slippers, and more in order of (astronomical) price paid.

At least there's one item in the top three that any self-respecting action film fan would love!eBay

As a reader of Crave, you might consider spending more for George Lucas' Panavision PSR 35mm camera (the one he shot "Star Wars IV: A New Hope" with) than you would for an old dress, but not everyone thinks the same way. That's why in a new infographic released by eBay (see below for a larger version), Marilyn Monroe's dress from "The Seven Year Itch" is at the top, having raked in $4.6 million, while Lucas' camera is a bit farther down, having only grabbed $625,000.

The infographic is nicely laid out along a vintage-style shot of the Empire State building crowned by a roaring King Kong, in a nod to something called a "metal armature" of the giant ape that sold for $200,000. Because the infographic is a little light on details, I investigated that one further and found that it was the 22-inch internal skeleton of the Kong model used in the 1933 movie, and sold in 2009.

While that's extraordinarily cool, I think that for that kind of money, I might have had to go with Frodo's sword Sting from "The Fellowship of the Ring," ($65,000), plus the flamethrower from "Alien" ($37,500), plus a handy-dandy velociraptor cage from "Jurassic Park" ($100,000). And for good measure, I'd throw in Mulder's ($6,000) FBI badge from "The X-Files," which is probably my favorite thing on the list. I could totally see myself rehearsing my best "Ef. Bee. Aye." in the mirror whilst flashing the cred. I know that adds up to a bit more than $200,000, but we're dreaming here, right?

Then again, if money was no object, it would be awfully nice to have Bond's Lotus submarine car from "The Spy Who Loved Me" ($860,000). Just imagine those heads turning as you drive off a pier in Miami headed for Monaco.

And you? Which item on this list would you have purchased if you had the cash? Let me know in the comments below.
