Fox Broadcasting and Microsoft's MSN said Tuesday that they have teamed to promote Fox's new summer reality show "American Idol" on the Web. Premiering Tuesday, the talent-scout TV show will have a companion Web site hosted by MSN and developed by the series producers, FremantleMedia and 19 Television. The site, which features streaming media from Windows Media, chat sessions and community boards, will be promoted throughout the summer on MSN's networks of sites. MSN and Fox will jointly sell sponsorships on the site. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
The move comes as Microsoft makes ato woo deals in Hollywood. While the deal is a first for Fox, Microsoft has previously TV promotion agreements for NBC's "Jay Leno Show" and "Access Hollywood." It has also produced sites for films such as Universal Studios' home video release of "The Grinch."
