MS, Siemens link management tools

Siemens Nixdorf Informationssysteme AG and Microsoft announce an agreement that will link Microsoft's management tools to large Unix servers and could open more doors to markets overseas for the software giant.

Siemens Nixdorf Informationssysteme AG (SNI), one of the largest systems providers in Europe, and Microsoft (MSFT) announced an agreement today that will link Microsoft's management tools to large Unix servers and could open more doors to markets overseas for the software giant.

Highlights of the announcement include:

--SNI will market its TransView systems and network management products with the Microsoft BackOffice suite on both SNI and Pyramid server systems.

--Microsoft Systems Management Server will be integrated with the TransView Control Center and Event Center systems management applications to offer administrators a central view of Unix and Windows-based systems. The integration efforts will debut with the next release of TransView, due next spring.

--SNI and its enterprise server subsidiary Pyramid Technology will work with Tandem Computers to incorporate features of Tandem's ServerNet clustering technology with Pyramid's Mesh Interconnect technology. SNI will embed ServerNet capabilities in the next release of TransView.
