Mr. Ellison goes to Washington

Oracle has hired former Attorney General-turned-lobbyist John Ashcroft, in an effort to woo Washington to steer business its way, according to a report in the Chicago Tribune.

Oracle, which reportedly paid the Ashcroft Group $220,000, is hoping to use Ashcroft as a consultant to land Homeland Security related contracts, according to the Trib.

In the world of business, enemies can suddenly find themselves the best of buds if the terms are right. During Ashcroft's tenure with the Department of Justice, the DOJ sued Oracle to block its acquisition of PeopleSoft. The feds lost in court and the case dropped.

Oracle is no stranger to Washington. Afterall, one of its board of directors is former Congressman Jack Kemp.
