MP3.com's COO to become president

Online music company MP3.com says it has promoted its chief operating officer to the post of president. Derrick Oien, 34, will continue to report to Chief Executive Robin Richards and will be responsible for managing the daily operations of the company. He will also focus on the company's profitability. Before joining the company two years ago and serving as COO and vice president of operations, Oien worked at Sony Pictures Studios, Computer Sciences and Universal Music Group. In August, French media giant Vivendi Universal, which acquired MP3.com for $372 million, tapped Richards to head the San Diego-based online music site. He replaced founder Michael Robertson as chairman and CEO.
