Motorola to Supply Modems to Cable Giants

Motorola has announced that it will provide 350,000 of its CyberSurfr modems to cable TV companies including Time Warner, Comcast Corporation, and Tele-Communications Incorporated (TCI). The financial agreements were not disclosed.

The cable companies will use the modems to hook up their subscribers to online services including their own, and to the Internet. Motorola company officials claim that cable TV system connections will be approximately 1,000 times faster than PC modems.

Motorola will supply TCI with 200,000 modems early next year. Time Warner will buy 50,000 and Comcast will buy 100,000 beginning next April.
