Motorola to buy Force Computers

Maker of embedded products for telecom and medical imaging equipment will be integrated with similar Motorola unit.

Motorola on Wednesday said it agreed to buy Force Computers, a unit of Solectron, for an undisclosed sum. The deal is expected to close by the end of the third quarter.

Force makes complex embedded computing products. Plans call for it to be integrated with Motorola Computer Group, which produces similar products and is based in Tempe, Ariz. The components produced by Force are largely deployed in telecom infrastructure and medical imaging equipment.

Force, located in Fremont, Calif., has 500 workers in Germany, India and Scotland.
