In these troubled times, when austerity is the watchword of the day, we've always got an eye out for a bargain. Asda has just introduced twelve new pay-as-you go phones, including the Motorola Moto G, Nokia Lumia 625 and a selection of feature phones for around a tenner.

The Nokia Lumia 625 is the most expensive of the bunch at £170, followed by the Motorola Moto G for £110.

Then there's the Samsung Galaxy Young, Acer Z5 and Alcatel One Touch T'Pop budget smart phones, which all cost less than £100.

If you're on a really strict budget, the rest of the phones are feature phones costing roughly a tenner. The Nokia 108, Nokia 106, Nokia Asha 503, Samsung E1200, Alcatel Tribe 3000, Virgin VM575 and Samsung E1270 feature phones will set you back between £8 and £15.

At that price they're good options for a spare backup phone, or a burner you're not bothered about losing while travelling, visiting a festival or otherwise putting yourself in harm's way. Alternatively, they make a good present for a child or a senior to keep in touch.

The phones are available on pay-as-you-go prepaid plans from assorted networks, including Vodafone, Virgin Media, O2 and T-Mobile. The Acer Z5 meanwhile is on Asda Mobile, and will be for the next three months before coming to other networks.
