More Palm Treos on the way

Things are looking up for Palm, as it reported an 18 percent increase in revenue over the same period last year and claimed 36 percent of the U.S. smart-phone market. While Palm president and CEO Ed Colligan said these were "significant accomplishments," we were more interested in the following statement: "We'll roll out the Palm Treo 700w smart phone based on Microsoft's Windows Mobile, and we'll announce three additional new smart phones during the 2006 calendar year." Three new Treos, huh?

While Colligan didn't divulge any information about the new smart phones, the good ol' rumor mill is alive and kicking. Brighthand has a few details on the trio, starting with a device code-named Hollywood. It's rumored to have a thin design (no external antenna) and expected to be available through Verizon Wireless with EV-DO support. There aren't too many specifics about the next model, code-named Lowrider, other than the fact that it will be a more affordable--around $200--version of the Treo. And finally, Palm is expected to release another Palm OS-based Treo by the end of 2006.
