More on dropouts with long tracks on iPod

Yesterday we covered a report of dropouts when playing very long AAC files (seven hour audiobooks converted to AAC). We've since received information that the iPod officially supports AAC files of a maximum length of 74 minutes, the length of a single CD; the only files of longer length that are officially supported are Audible files. (We should also point out that we don't see a reason to convert audiobooks to AAC format, as most are compressed already, so converting them to AAC results in another generation of compression and thus lower sound quality, without a significant reduction in file size.)
