Modern Warfare 3 limited edition Xbox 360 priced

A tie-in limited edition console costs almost £100 more than a normal Xbox, but it does look as battered as an artillerised tank.

The Modern Warfare 3-branded Xbox 360 has just been priced. The bad news? It's almost a ton more than a standard Xbox. The good? It looks -- and sounds -- absolutely amazing. That's right, this baby has its own sound effects.

Modern Warfare 3 hits the shops on 8 November, and if you're hungry for more than just the game, you can pick up a limited edition Xbox 360 console that's designed to look as though it's been in the wars itself.

Retailer Game is taking pre-orders now for the console, which was announced at the weekend, and it'll cost you £270. Almost £100 more than a standard 250GB Xbox 360, yes, but then a normal Xbox doesn't have these kind of military credentials.

As well as looking tougher than a Sergeant Major after a four-year tour of duty, it comes with custom sound effects. Turn it on or off, and it sounds like a plasma rifle charging up. Eject the disc tray, and it sounds like a futuristic walkie talkie ringtone. You can listen to the effects here. They're a little more sci-fi than we were expecting, but very cool nonetheless.

The 320GB console (you get a little more memory for your money) comes with a copy of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, two wireless controls that bear the same graphics and branding as the console, a one-month Xbox Live Gold subscription, and exclusive avatar items that non-console owners won't have.

A Bluetooth headset that's part of the same range also ships on 11 October, so you can swear chat during multiplayer games. You can also buy the wireless controller on its own from then.

This follows the Gears of War 3 limited edition console that's out on 20 September. So despite the Xbox 360 getting a pure matte finish, it looks as though there are still plenty of style choices out there for gamers.
