Microsoft's Thinga.Me is a scrapbook app for organizing your real-world possessions

Want to share your coin collection with the world? Thinga.Me is the app for you.

People collect a lot of stuff: coins, stamps, Star Wars figures -- you name it. And for those numismatists and philatelists of the world, Microsoft has a new app for archiving their passions and sharing them with the world: Thinga.Me.

Yes, you can already take photos of your trophy shelf and post that on Facebook, Twitter or Pinterest. But Thinga.Me can take a photo of an object and automatically cut out the background. You can then move the digital item into a collection, which you can customize through different themes. Think of it as a digital scrapbook.

If that sounds cool to you, I'm sorry to say you can't download it -- yet. The iPhone app is from Microsoft's Garage -- a sort of in-house startup incubator -- is currently in a closed trial. But you can sign up to be considered for an invite, which are parsed out on occasion.

In the meantime, no public launch date has been announced.
