Microsoft shifts leadership

Microsoft said this week that it promoted Will Poole to senior vice president of the Windows Client business, heading up the newly realigned division of products and services for the Redmond, Wash.-based company.

Poole, who was previously vice president of the Windows digital media division, will be responsible for product development, business strategy, sales and finance for the Windows Client business, which includes the Windows operating system on desktops, laptops, Tablet PCs and home entertainment electronics.

Poole will focus on expanding new Windows technologies such as Windows Media 9 Series into the enterprise and home computing environments, particularly melding Microsoft's burgeoning relationship with Hollywood. He will also oversee the development of the next major release of Windows. Under Poole, Amir Majidimehr will be newly in charge of the Windows digital media division, which includes the media player, server and Movie Maker teams.
