Microsoft releases more NT fixes for tests
The company has distributed a test version of a fifth service pack release for its Windows NT 4.0 operating system to about 500 customers.
The fifth service pack includes new fixes for dial-up networking, system preparation, and set-up and installation. It will also include a new year 2000 fix that solves a minor problem with the way dates are used, a Microsoft spokesman said.
Microsoft plans to ship a final version of the service pack to the public this second quarter. The additional Y2K fix will also be available as a separate download on the company's Web site.
Microsoft has said it will regularly release updates to NT 4.0 that include the latest fixes and patches for the operating system. Each service pack includes all fixes and additions up to that time.
The previous service pack--version 4--had included many fixes to help customers become Y2K compliant.
Meanwhile, Microsoft yesterday said it will fix a security glitch in the current version of Windows NT. (See related story.)
