Microsoft on Thursday reissued its for Excel 2000 security update, which is designed to resolve a software bug that prevents users from opening files created in certain foreign languages.

The latest update is designed to fix a bug in the security patch released last week, which could prevent users from opening Excel files created in Korean, Chinese or Japanese, according to a Microsoft spokesman.

Microsoft had issued the original patch last week to guard against malicious attackers commandeering users' computers remotely. The revised update will continue to address the security vulnerabilities, as well as correctly process phonetic information entered into Excel, the spokesman noted.
