Micropayment company BitPass announced Thursday that it has acquired Yaga, a developer of payment services for digital content.

Menlo Park, Calif-based BitPass, which helps online merchants perform small-ticket transactions, declined to provide financial terms of the deal.

Micropayments are typified by the 99 cents that iTunes charges to download a song or the $2.99 users might see on their Cingular Wireless phone bills after buying a custom ring tone.

"The combination of Yaga and BitPass brings a world of new offerings to help our customers expand their efforts in monetizing their digital content," said Doug Knopper, BitPass CEO.

Purchasing Yaga helps BitPass expand its payment options, including stored value accounts and subscriptions. The company also picks up Yaga's customers, including Time Inc., United Media and Ziff Davis Media.

BitPass can already boast a client list that includes Microsoft and Disney.
