Software maker Merant, which specializes in tools for managing Web content and software code, released a new application Monday that works with Microsoft's Office to manage common document types. Meritage allows members of a project team to access and modify centrally stored Word documents, Excel spreadsheets and PowerPoint presentations. The software includes options for automatically notifying all team members when a document is changed and tools to track all changes made to a document.

Meritage works with Office 2000, Office XP and Office 2003. It works as a standalone application or integrated with Merant's Version Manager product for managing software configuration. Meritage is priced at $2,995 for each server it runs on, plus $149 per user.
