Medcases gets $8.6 million booster shot

MedCases, which makes software for doctors that simulates patient cases, has landed an $8.6 million second round. The Philadelphia-based company has raised a total of $11.6 million, and its lead investor was Brooks Capital Group. Other investors include H.F Lenfest, Wynnefield Capital Advisors, Frederick R. Adler, Euro-America II L.P., PPM America Capital Partners LLC, CIP Capital LP and PA Early Stage. MedCases plans to use the funds to increase the number of medical specialty software programs it offers, in addition to expanding its sales and marketing efforts. The company's educational courses allow doctors to pretend they are interacting with a patient and assess their skills, ranging from asking patients questions to running appropriate lab tests.
