Matsushita develops DVD Multi chipset

Matsushita Electric, best known for its Panasonic brand, announced on Thursday the development of a chipset for drives supporting the DVD Multi specification. The spec was approved by the DVD Forum in January of this year and allows drives complying with it to read all three DVD Forum formats: DVD-R, DVD-RW and DVD-RAM. Panasonic announced a drive using the DVD Multi spec in late June.

Sample chipsets are expected to ship to manufacturers this month.
