Marvel's 'Jessica Jones' drinks and fights in new Netflix trailers
Barroom brawls and destroyed alarm clocks reveal that Jessica Jones doesn't drink well with others and hates mornings. We'll see her in action on Netflix starting on November 20.
After a tragic ending to her life as a misunderstood superhero, Marvel comics character Jessica Jones is rebuilding her life by becoming a detective in New York City. She may still have superpowers, but that doesn't mean she has to play by superhero rules anymore.
In the upcoming Netflix show, which debuts on November 20, Jones (played by Krysten Ritter) opens up her own detective firm called Alias Investigations. Aside from a previous Netflix teaser trailer that debuted earlier in September, we don't know exactly what adventures await her. A couple of new Netflix teaser trailers offer some hints.
In one titled "Good Morning," which came out on September 26, we see Jones in her New York apartment. The room's littered with alcohol bottles, scattered newspapers and clothes. When her radio alarm clock goes off at 3 p.m., Jones smashes her clock instead of hitting the snooze button. To be fair, I'd probably destroy my alarm clock too if the radio woke me up with the song "Loving You" by Minnie Riperton.
In another teaser trailer titled "Nightcap" that came out Wednesday, we see Jones pick the Joan Jett song "Bad Reputation" on a bar's jukebox after one heck of a brawl. After kicking away a knife from one of her beaten-up assailants, Jones drinks a well-deserved shot of alcohol.
According to her origin story, Jones was exposed to an experimental radioactive material when she got into tragic car accident with her family. The material gave her superhuman strength and the ability to fly.
She took on the costumed alias of Jewel. Her superhero career took a dark turn when she was manipulated by the villain Purple Man (played by David Tennant in the Netflix series) into attacking her fellow heroes Daredevil and the Scarlet Witch.
After she was rehabilitated by S.H.I.E.L.D., she rejected the superhero lifestyle and instead became a licensed private investigator, which is where the Netflix series begins. The Netflix show will be based on Marvel's "Alias" comics created by writer Brian Michael Bendis and artist Michael Gaydos.
Jones also makes an attempt to have a love life in the process by dating none other than Marvel hero-for-hire Luke Cage, played by Mike Colter, who will have his own Netflix series. Jones will also be joined on the show by her best friend Trish Walker, played by Rachael Taylor, and a no-nonsense ally named Harper, played by Carrie-Anne Moss.
"Jessica Jones" will feature 13 episodes, available on November 20 on Netflix. But until then, enjoy the new teaser trailers below. Like the show's tagline says, "It's time the world knew her name."
