No need to full-length "Ant-Man" trailer during "Marvel's Agent Carter." Fans finally witnessed Paul Rudd as devoted father Scott Lang dressed in the Ant-Man costume. Plus we get action-packed scenes of him flying through the sky via the aid of... is that THE Wasp?! Marvel has finally released a
What's remarkable is how much of Ant-Man's origin story is referenced in this trailer alone.
The trailer hints at Lang's time in jail and Lang's fight to help his gravely ill young daughter. Dr. Hank Pym, played by Michael Douglas, is the original creator and owner of the powerful Ant-Man costume and plays a large part in the trailer, which makes sense considering his role in the original comics.
In the Marvel comics, Ant-Man's first appearance was in "Tales to Astonish" #35 in 1962. Then Ant-Man was the superhero identity of Dr. Pym with his girlfriend Janet Van Dyne as the Wasp. The crime-fighting couple were the founding members of the Avengers.
Later, Lang takes on the Ant-Man persona, with Pym's encouragement, and also joins the Avengers. He even dates fellow superhero Jessica Jones -- it will be interesting to see if that gets a mention in the upcoming Netflix-produced TV show "."
In the trailer we get a few quick shots of Evangeline Lilly who plays Hope Van Dyne -- the daughter of superheroes Hank Pym and Janet Van Dyne. Corey Stoll plays Darren Cross, who later becomes Ant-Man's nemesis Yellowjacket.
But as with all Marvel comics-to-film adaptations, it's hard to know for sure which elements from the long-running comic will show up in the "Ant-Man" movie, which hits theaters July 17. For now, all we can do is speculate and wait.
"Ant-Man" is directed by Peyton Reed, who is also known for his films "Bring It On," "The Break-Up" and "Yes Man." Reed replaced Edgar Wright as the director for "Ant-Man" in 2014, although Wright is still credited as an executive producer alongside Marvel legend Stan Lee.
