Mark Hamill's mysterious one-word tweets continue

If this is in fact the Star Wars Episode IX title, it's the weirdest one ever. (Spoiler: It's not.)

Mark Hamill never met a Twitter joke he didn't like.

It seems fairly clear now that Mark Hamill's supposed title tease about Star Wars: Episode IX has nothing to do with the film's title at all. And to be fair, he never said it did.

Starting last Thursday, Hamill has been tweeting out a single word a day, which at first led fans to believe he was hinting at a title reveal for the final Star Wars film.

Hamill's Thursday tweet read "THE (to be continued...)," and his Friday tweet read "PURPOSE (cont'd)."

When Hamill had just tweeted THE, it seemed likely that he was playing a title-related joke, since the earlier two films in this trilogy both began with "The." But "Purpose"? That doesn't seem like a very Star Wars word, certainly not along the lines of the rumor that the title will be "A New Order," playing off the 1977 film's "A New Hope" subtitle.

Since then, Hamill has added the words "OF," "ANNOYING" and "EVERYONE," adding up to "THE PURPOSE OF ANNOYING EVERYONE..."

Though it's still unclear what his final sentence will be, it seems it has absolutely no relation to a title reveal, as most fans probably knew from the start.

Fans had some fun guesses, though. One declared early on that that the "purpose...of these tweets: keeping idjits guessing for days?" And another thought the often-political actor had a civic message in mind, guessing the final message would be, "The purpose of annoying everyone with a daily tweet is to remind you how important it is to get out and vote on November sixth."

Hamill seems likely to continue to have a word-a-day fun with his mysterious message, but don't expect it to add up to any big reveal.

Whatever it's called, Star Wars: Episode IX is scheduled for release on Dec. 20, 2019.
