Marimba plans document software
Marimba debuts software for delivering documents over corporate networks and the Internet.
DocService is designed to provide automatic, targeted delivery of documents to recipients, both inside and outside the corporation, the company said.
The software differs from current electronic document delivery techniques, such as email, Web server deployment, or document management software in that it automates the delivery and update process for both senders and recipients, the company claims.
DocService is the first release in a planned portfolio of Marimba applications designed to provide an out-of-the-box system for a specific tasks that the company refers to as Internet services management.
Priced at $100 per client and $1,000 per server, DocService begins shipping in the third quarter.
Marimba is looking for a niche in the corporate software market. Earlier this month, the company's shares fell 20 percent on investor concern that stock in the maker of products for distributing and updating software over the Internet had become overvalued.
Marimba, founded in 1996, is headed by Kim Polese, 37. Polese was one of the developers of Java, the Internet programming language developed by Sun Microsystems in 1995.
