Macromedia released a new version of its ColdFusion package of tools for developing Web applications. ColdFusion MX 6.1 includes performance enhancement that run applications and generate e-mail faster, according to the San Francisco-based software maker. Applications developed with the enterprise version of ColdFusion MX 6.1 are designed to run on the bundled version of Macromedia's JRun server software or to integrate with existing application servers, such as BEA's WebLogic and IBM's WebSphere.

ColdFusion MX 6.1 is available as a free upgrade for current ColdFusion MX customers. New customers pay $1,299 per server, while those upgrading from version 4.5 and 5 pay $649. ColdFusion MX Enterprise 6.1 is priced at $5,999 for an installation running on two processors, or $2,999 for upgrades from version 4.5 and 5.
