LynuxWorks raises $4 million in funding

LynuxWorks, a San Jose, Calif.-based company that sells "embedded" operating systems for computing devices such as network routers, has raised $4 million in bridge funding and is negotiating for more. In addition, the company said restructuring actions and revenue from military and aerospace customers enabled it to earn more money than it spends. LynuxWorks has sold its LynxOS embedded operating system for years but added a version of Linux called BlueCat and is working to make LynxOS run Linux programs. The company credits this feature as the reason the company was awarded a contract by the Royal Danish Navy, which needed an operating system for a command and control computing system that also could run its Linux-based battlefield-simulation programs.
