Linuxcare names new CEO

Open-source software consulting and services company Linuxcare has announced the appointment of Avery Lyford as its new chief executive officer and president. Lyford succeeds co-founder Arthur F. Tyde, III, who will remain on the board of directors. Lyford was most recently a consultant at McKinsey and before that was with Athena Communications Systems. Linuxcare has had to lay off employees, modify its business plans and cancel a proposed merger with TurboLinux as the business climate for open-source software has turned rough.
