Lineo announced Tuesday the availability of Embedix, its version of Linux for devices such as set-top boxes, for Panasonic's LF-D201U DVD-RAM drive. Lineo's software allows a device running Embedix to connect to the drive using ordinary ATAPI or SCSI techniques. The internal drive, which reads and writes both CDs and DVDs, costs $549. Programming tools that allow Embedix developers to use the Lineo software cost $4,995.
