Linksys claims SRX400 router's speeds are faster than wired Ethernet

Linksys's latest entry into MIMO-based routers is the WRT54GX4 Wireless-G broadband router with SRX400. Like other routers of its class, the WRT54GX4 is a router, a wireless access point, and a four-port switch in one, allowing the user to set up a wireless network of devices and multiple users to share a wireless Internet connection. In addition, it supports WPA encryption, acts as a DHCP server, supports VPN pass-throughs, and has an SPI firewall.

In CNET's networking testing, MIMO-based products have consistently shown better range and speed than their non-MIMO counterparts. Linksys claims the WRT54GX4 can achieve speeds of up to 10 times that of standard G, provided both sides of the connection are using SRX400 technology. In fact, Linksys claims that with SRX400 on both sides, the speed can exceed that of 10/100 Ethernet connections. It's a big claim and one that remains to be tested by CNET Labs. The WRT54GX4 router is available now.
