Liberty Media nabs former Oracle CFO

Greg Maffei, who left Oracle last week, will become CEO and president of the Internet and media holding company.

Greg Maffei, Oracle's former chief financial officer, will become CEO of Liberty Media, his new company said Wednesday.

Maffei, who also has been named a director at Liberty, was with Oracle for less than a year before stepping down at the company last week.

Maffei will take over the CEO spot in the second quarter of 2006, replacing John C. Malone, who will remain chairman. Maffei will also become president of the company, replacing Robert Bennett, who is retiring but will remain a director.

Liberty Media is a holding company with stakes in numerous Internet and media companies, including InterActiveCorp, Expedia, and News Corp., and television channels QVC, Encore and Starz.
