LG is known for giving its products cute names and personalities -- see the Viewty -- but the anthropomorphism seems to be going a tad far with its latest product.and the
The company's FB163 micro hi-fi system will "exclusively present the Official After Party of the MTV Australia Awards," according to a statement released by LG today. So it'll have a few wines, make its way up to the stage and yell "Let's get loaded, punters!"?
A few paragraphs along, it becomes clearer that this "presenting" actually means that the LG is sponsoring the awards. That makes more sense, but how refreshing would it be to attend a party hosted by an inanimate object? It's not too far a stretch from your average Big Brother alumnus.
When the FB163 isn't propped up against the bar schmoozing Natalie Bassingthwaighte, it operates as an iPod dock and player for CDs, DVDs and digital music files. Design-wise it resembles LG's recent handsets, with glossy, piano-black surfaces and touch-sensitive controls.
A curious attribute is the CD-to-MP3 converter, which will turn your disc-bound tunes into neat little digital files. Of course, you could always just rip CDs on your computer -- allowing for more flexibility in terms of file format, bitrate and ID3 tags -- but hey, it's nice to have options.
The FB163 retails for AU$399. We'll be getting it in for review shortly, so check back for the full evaluation.
