LG Optimus 3D and Sony Ericsson Xperia Play available for UK pre-order

Want to bag yourself a hot new Android handset? UK retailer Play.com has some good news: it's started taking pre-orders for the LG Optimus 3D and Sony Ericsson Xperia Play.

Want to bag yourself a hot new Android handset without waiting for the operators to start selling it? UK retailer Play.com has some good news: it's started taking pre-orders for the LG Optimus 3D and Sony Ericsson Xperia Play.

The Optimus 3D is listed with a 25 April release date, and a SIM-free price tag of £514.99. Meanwhile, Sony Ericsson's PlayStation Phone is currently going for £519.99 with a release date of 28 March. As ever with pre-orders -- these were spotted by Android Central -- the dates and prices may well change in the coming weeks.

The two phones both had a high profile at Mobile World Congress last week in Barcelona. Sony Ericsson finally unveiled the Xperia Play after what felt like months of leaked information, pictures and videos -- mainly because it was months of leaked information, pictures and videos.

The phone's big selling point is that it's the first PlayStation Certified smart phone, capable of running vintage PSOne games and newer titles made for Sony Ericsson by its network of mobile developers. The handset has a slide-out joypad for playing, runs Android 2.3 Gingerbread and has a 5-megapixel camera.

Play.com is selling the black version of the device, rather than the white model that was confirmed as an O2 exclusive last week. Meanwhile, T-Mobile and Orange have both announced they'll be selling the black version in April.

The LG Optimus 3D made waves at MWC with its glasses-free 3D screen, 3D camera and beefy dual-core processor. It includes a HDMI-out port for connecting to your telly, and while the model we saw was running Android 2.2 rather than 2.3, an update is expected soon after it launches (and hopefully before).
