Level 3 to carry AT&T Wireless traffic

Level 3 Communications said Thursday that it will provide telecom network services to AT&T Wireless in certain markets. Level 3 will supply a series of private line circuits to AT&T Wireless that will handle voice and data traffic for its wireless network, which is based on GSM (Global System for Mobile Communications) technology and GPRS (General Packet Radio Service), a data communication technology that gives cell phone users access to e-mail and the Internet. Level 3 operates a 20,000 mile optical network in the United States that also connects with Asia and Europe. The Broomfield, Colo.-based company provides private line services to Verizon and Time Warner Telecom and carries Internet traffic for Microsoft and Earthlink.
