Lenovo Helix laptop-tablet delayed until March or April

The hybrid won't make its February due date, according to a Lenovo post on the company's Facebook page.

Updated: Lenovo has since told CNET that the Helix will start shipping in early March.

Anyone looking to pick up Lenovo's new Helix convertible laptop-tablet may have to wait another month or two.

Unveiled at CES last month, the ThinkPad Helix was slated to reach consumers late this month. But a post on Lenovo's Facebook page indicates a possible monkey wrench in those plans.

An anxious customer posed the simple question: "It's February. Where is the Helix?" In response, an apparent Lenovo rep with the initials CB broke the news that "unfortunately we received word that it will be delayed till March or April. More details will be announced soon."

And the latest details do paint a more promising picture. A Lenovo spokesman told CNET on February 6 that the Helix will start shipping in early March.

The Helix is the latest in a growing lineup of convertible laptops that can double as tablets. Equipped with Windows 8, the Helix uses a clamshell design in which the screen can pop off the keyboard and function as a standalone tablet. When attached, the screen can also face out from the back of the device.

The 11.6-inch IPS display offers a resolution of 1,920x1,080 pixels and allows for pen input. The Helix can be powered by a processor as beefy as Intel's current third-generation Core i7 chip. Buyers will be able to order the unit with up to 8GB of memory and a 256GB solid-state drive. The battery is rated to last 10 hours on a single charge. The hybrid starts at $1,499.
