Lawsuit aims to halt HP-Compaq merger

Weiss & Yourman, a law firm specializing in shareholder lawsuits, said Sunday that it is seeking to block Hewlett-Packard from acquiring Compaq Computer until the two companies re-evaluate Compaq's worth as a company. The suit was filed Jan. 28 in the Northern District of California. In a statement released Monday, HP said the suit was without merit and noted that the plaintiffs have not sought a preliminary injunction to block the vote. "There is an unprecedented amount of information about the transaction for shareowners contained in HP's S-4 filing and in the marketplace," the company said.
