Latest Samsung leak confirms earlier rumors and fills in a few blanks
Samsung's fourth quarter looks to be packed with Android as a second leaked road map surfaces with new models and expected launch dates.
A second leaked Samsung road map surfaced today that seemingly confirms the manufacturer's handset plans for the next few months.
Italian tech blog telefonino has obtained multiple model numbers plus their related specs and launch dates. While Sammy was quick to acknowledge the first round of leaks as being inaccurate, those original details match up quite nicely with today's information.
Assuming that these new specs prove to be true, there are at least eight Android smartphones expected over the coming months. What's more, Samsung should refresh the 7-inch
GT-I9250
Given that it's rumored to be the Nexus Prime, the GT-I9250 is the phone that will should garner the most buzz over the next few weeks. Specifications include Android Ice Cream Sandwich, a 4.65-inch (1,280x720 pixels) display, and a 5-megapixel camera. The expected release date for this model is between November 28 and December 4, a time frame that falls in line with earlier reports of another Nexus device landing later in the year.
GT-I9220 and GT-I9210
The GT-I9220, due at the end of October, is said to run Android 2.3 Gingerbread and feature a 4.3-inch (1,280x720 pixels) Super AMOLED Plus display, a dual-core 1.4GHz processor, and an 8-megapixel camera. Roughly one month later we could get the GT-I9210, which could have a slightly larger 4.5-inch (800x480 pixels) Super AMOLED display, 16GB internal storage, and 4G support.
Additional specifications for that handset include an 8-megapixel camera with LED flash, a front-facing 2-megapixel camera, and a 1,750 mAH battery. Of course, it's worth mentioning that the GT-I9210 was previously rumored to carry a 5.29-inch display. Perhaps that's why Samsung labeled the first road map leak as "inaccurate."
GT-I8150
An Android 2.3.3-powered GT-I8150 is expected in early October with a 3.7-inch (800x480 pixels) LCD display, a 1.4GHz processor, a 5-megapixel camera, and 4GB internal storage. It's unclear, however, whether the processor is single- or dual-core. Rounding out the details are 720p video recording capability, Wi-Fi (802.11 b/g/n), Bluetooth 3.0, GPS, HSDPA, DLNA, and FM radio.
On the small side
If you like a more compact model, a newly uncovered GT-S5360 should arrive on the scene in mid-October running Android 2.3.3 Gingerbread. Featuring a 3-inch QVGA display and 2-megapixel camera, I wouldn't look for this one to have much in processing prowess or memory.
Next we come to an even smaller B5510-W41, which is said to run Android 2.2.2 Froyo. Considering that other details include a 2.8-inch display, an 800MHz processor, a 3-megapixel camera, and a QWERTY keyboard, I imagine that this device will resemble a Galaxy Pro and appeal to more business-minded users. The expected launch date here is somewhere between October 10 and 16.
Finally, there's a GT-S5610 slated for release in the second half of October. Running Android 2.3.3 Gingerbread and offering a screen size of only 2.4 inches, it should have a 5-megapixel camera and 150MB internal storage.
Galaxy Tab
Samsung looks to mark the one-year anniversary of the original Galaxy Tab with the release of a refreshed, Honeycomb-powered P6200 model. The display should remain the same at 1,024x600 pixels, but the Super AMOLED technology will surely look better than its predecessor's TFT active matrix screen.
In an era where everyone is talking about 4G and faster data networks, the inclusion of HSDPA support provides added relevance. Yet, it's not known whether this tablet will see a boost in processing speed since the 1GHz chipset in last year's model will look weak when compared with dual-core and rumored multicore tablets. Due in late October or early November, consumers can also look forward to a Wi-Fi-only P6210 model.
Windows Phone 7
As mentioned above, Samsung also has a Windows Phone 7.1 Mango phone on deck for October. Carrying a model number of GT-I8350 or Omnia W, the hardware would offer a 3.7-inch WVGA display, a 1GHz processor, a 5-megapixel camera, Wi-Fi, GPS and Bluetooth.
One thing to bear in mind as we run head first into this decidedly busy fourth quarter is that not all markets will see these phones. Instead, it's likely that we'll only see a few released in the United States with the rest headed for other regions. Also, remember that leaks are just that and we can't confirm anything 100 percent.
