Online convenience-goods retailer Kozmo.com reopened its Web site after a brief downtime this morning to perform "end-of-year inventory," according to a company representative.

Between the hours of 8 a.m. and 10 a.m. PST, visitors logging on to Kozmo, which delivers such items as videos, CDs and fast food to customers in less than an hour, were greeted by a message that said inventory would be completed by 10 a.m. CNET News.com first noticed that the site was inaccessible at 8 a.m.

Kozmo spokesman Keith Gill could not specify the length of the downtime; however, he said the procedure is an annual process. "Everybody needs to do inventory," Gill said.

The inventory and site downtime comes a day after CNET News.com reported that New York-based Kozmo may expand its offerings to include nonprescription drugs as early as this week.

Kozmo declined to comment on the report.

The company operates in New York, Boston, Seattle and San Francisco and is planning to expand to 30 cities next year. Kozmo's chief rival is UrbanFetch.com, based in New York.
