Launched yesterday in the US, it arrived in Australia today, allowing fitness-oriented Aussies to access a dashboard that shows how much energy has been burned as the user plays.

But it's not just for exercise-related games, such as Dance Central or Zumba Fitness — the app tracks movement and usage across a range of Kinect games, including Kinect Star Wars.

It even offers rewards: as you burn kilojoules, you can earn PlayFit Achievements, Gamerscore and Avatar awards, as well as credit.

And, said the release on Major Nelson's (Larry Hryb) website, "Kinect PlayFit lets you view your personal stats over time, and see leader boards that show how you rank against Xbox Live members across the globe".

Although Wii Fit Plus has a calorie tracker, this is the first fitness tracking application on a console, that tracks your activity across multiple games.
