Kindle Fire HDX hits UK from £199, out mid-November
Amazon's newest tablets have arrived in Blighty, but the 8.9-inch version will cost you a pretty penny.
Amazon's latest Kindle Fire tablets have landed in the UK, just in time to stuff into your pals' Christmas stockings.
The angular new Kindle Fire HDX comes in both 7-inch and 8.9-inch sizes. The smaller option has a 1,920x1,200-pixel display, a quad-core processor and costs £199. You can pre-order today for a 13 November delivery.
The 8.9-inch model meanwhile has an even more eye-watering 2,560x1,600-pixel resolution and is also quad-core, for speedier performance. Both HDX models have a Batmobile-esque new design, which is supposed to improve sound when it's laid flat, and both are running Amazon's new Fire OS 3.0 software, which is based on Android Jelly Bean.
There are 4G versions of both tablets, but they're very expensive. The 7-inch 4G model costs £269, while the 8.9-inch 4G option costs a whopping £399. Delivery for these data-centric slates is 27 November and 13 December respectively, and in the UK, 4G service for the tablets will come via Vodafone.

For £199 you can get Amazon's revamped 7-inch Fire HD tablet, which has the new software, a dual-core 1.5GHz processor and a new, slim design.
Amazon's tablets give you access to the online bookshop's huge wealth of digital books, but can only stream -- not download -- movies via Amazon's Lovefilm service.
