Star Wars fan Rich Williamson wanted to consider what an Obi-Wan Kenobi film might look like, so he put together a teaser trailer for "Kenobi: A Star Wars Story."
Kenobi is the lightsaber-wielding Jedi Master who trained Anakin Skywalker and mentored the young Luke Skywalker, important characters in the space opera series. Actor Ewan McGregor played Kenobi, a role pioneered by Alec Guinness, in the prequel films.
You might watch Williamson's teaser trailer and scratch your head. Where, you might wonder, did all that footage of a long-haired, robed McGregor came from? You won't find it in the Star Wars canon.
That's because it's from a work based on anther canon: the Bible. Employing some clever editing, Williamson reused clips from the favorable reviewed "Last Days in the Desert," where McGregor plays the role of Jesus.
Padmé Amidala, mother of the twins Luke and Leia, makes an appearance, as does a ghostly hologram projection of Liam Neeson as Kenobi's Jedi master mentor Qui-Gon Jinn. Both characters featured in the prequel films.
While most Star Wars trailers, official and fan-made, tend toward dramatic sweeps and battle sequences, Williamson's is contemplative. It hints at a very personal storyline.
It will make you long for a standalone Kenobi movie.
