Judgment against Sex.com thief stands

A federal appeals panel has refused to drop at $65 million judgment against the man who hijacked domain name Sex.com. A lower court had ordered Stephen Cohen to pay the money to Gary Kremen, the original owner of the domain name. Cohen the lucrative Web address by sending a false letter to VeriSign, asking that the name be transferred to him. He apparently is living in Mexico. The 9th Circuit Court of Appeals panel said it rejected the bid to dismiss the damage claim "in light of Cohen's status as a fugitive from justice and his egregious abuse of the litigation process."

Kremen has also sued VeriSign, asking that the company be held liable for transferring the domain name without first seeking confirmation. The court is still considering the matter.
