John Oliver admits he rooted for Trump to run

When the advances are paid and the books are written, we will sit and wonder how it all started.
We thought this was going to be an election campaign in which an unpopular candidate would be opposed by someone who melded both charm and gravitas.
And then Donald Trump landed upon American politics with some cogent things to say and a novel way of saying them.
Indeed, he became so much of a happening that he has every chance of winning it all.
But whose idea was it for him to run? Was it, like all other Trump ideas, Trump's own? Or did he get a helping hand?
On Sunday night, HBO comedian John Oliver offered one last -- and blessedly short -- segment on the election.
Oliver praised Trump, in his way, for showing restraint in these last days of American Empire.
He described Trump's calm inner monologue as having "the tone of a serial killer stalking his prey in a food court."
Oliver's ultimate purpose was to cajole everyone into voting.
He suggested typing "view my ballot" into Google search together with one's address. That way, you can see every last issue and person that is being voted on in your locale.
Actually, that wasn't the comedian's ultimate purpose.
This all led up to a confession. He played a clip from "The Daily Show," in which the presenter encouraged Trump to run and even promised to immediately donate to his campaign if he did so.
That presenter was Oliver.
Perhaps on Wednesday, he will be invited to become the Republican National Committee chairman.
