Jelly Bean is now on 59.1 per cent of all active Android devices, according to the latest figures from Google. That's up from 54.5 per cent at the start of last month.

The latest version KitKat, meanwhile, is still down in the doldrums, though it has increased very slightly. 1.4 per cent of all active Android devices run the chocolate-themed build of the OS, up from 1.1 per cent last month. At least it's moving in the right direction.

The ancient Gingerbread still puts in a very respectable performance, accounting for 21.2 per cent of all devices, while the slightly more recent Ice Cream Sandwich is on 16.9 per cent. Froyo stands at 1.3 per cent, while Honeycomb is bringing up the rear, with 0.1 per cent.

KitKat launched at the end of October on the Nexus 5, and has since rolled out to other Google devices like the Nexus 4, Nexus 7, and Nexus 10. It has landed on the Motorola Moto G as of today, and we're also expecting it to come to the HTC One and Samsung Galaxy S4 sometime this month.

The latest version of Android always takes a while to trickle down to non-Google devices. This is because manufacturers like HTC and Samsung like to skin the operating system with their own user interfaces. The update also varies by operator.

The quickest way to get the latest version of Android is to have a Google device, SIM free.

Which version are you running? Are these delays in distributing the latest version a real issue? What can be done about it? Let me know in the comments, or on our always up to date Facebook page.
