Jeff Bezos's Blue Origin rocket wins NAA Collier award
The National Aeronautic Association recognizes Blue Origin's New Shepard rocket for its reusable booster, vertical powered landings.
Jeff Bezos has another feather to put in his cap.
The Amazon chief's aerospace company Blue Origin earned the 2017 Collier award Wednesday from the National Aeronautic Association (NAA). The non-profit comprises individual citizens, companies and aviation groups and has been recording American achievements in flight for over a century.
The NAA bestowed the honor onto Blue Origin's New Shepard rocket system, praising the spacecraft for five successful test flights of its reusable booster. The rocket booster also managed to safely land under power vertically upon returning to earth.
Blue Origin isn't the only American aerospace corporation pushing the envelope of space exploration and launch technology. Space X, headed by Tesla CEO and billionaire Elon Musk, will also attempt to loft a satellite into orbit with a used booster rocket. If Space X gets green lights, this groundbreaking feat could happen as soon as today.
Blue Origin didn't immediately respond to request for comment.
