Java Announcement Expected Monday

Sun Microsystems and Netscape are expected to announce an easy-to-use version of Java on Monday, according to a report in today's San Francisco Chronicle. The tip came from the Western Cable Show and has been confirmed by reliable sources, according to the report.

JavaScript, set for release next spring, will allow even novices to learn the Java programming language, according to sources. The applications will enable developers to build Java applets through scripting rather than by programming. JavaScript was written by Netscape, but will keep Sun's name.

Sun Microsystems will release its Macintosh Java interpreter next month. Read more about Java and other new multimedia applications for the Net in Christopher Barr's column.
